On our last night in Chiang Mai, Soraya took us to the wonderful night market. It started around sundown and it went until around midnight. The place is HUGE! First we walked around and began to look at some of the booths and the wares that were for sale. Everything was cheap, cheap, cheap. If you need to get anything, this is the place. And unlike many other markets, the items being sold were of quality. Our friends in Malaysia said that people travel to Thailand just for these type of markets and I could see why.
As it got dark, the crowds came out in hoards. It became so hard to walk around because of all of the shoppers so we decided to find some respite at a food court. The meal was delicious. I had some fried vegetarian treats and a small papaya salad. I am proud to say that my papaya salad was a little better, but that was because the woman making it put in a lot of dried shrimp. Cody got satay and noodles and then we shared everything. The food was delicious and if you go, I would suggest sampling lots of small dishes, instead of getting one large one, so you can try more local cuisine.
Soraya and Zack stopped for a massage and people watched, while Cody and I walked around some more.
We found another little food court tucked in to the plaza of a local temple. The buildings were beautiful with the lights illuminating off of all of the gold.
It was the perfect way to spend the last night in Chiang Mai. And to top it off, we ended the trip with yet another roti.
