The same day we went to Penang Hill we also went to the Penang Botanical Gardens. From the top of the hill you can hike down into the gardens 5k away, but given that it looked like it was going to rain, we were all in flip-flops and we were just messing with a mammoth spider that Rorey knew there would be more of in the jungle, we took a cab. It was free and very beautiful.
Then we decided to go for a hike to find the waterfall trail. No map and flip-flops on, we took the trail that had the most foot traffic by locals. It was a long, steep climb that did not lead to waterfalls and when we reached the top we were all drenched but it was still fun.
Exhausting but fun as you can see here. When we reached the top there was a little hut with water, restrooms, seats and shade. All were much needed.
As an extra surprise bonus, there were a ton of monkeys at the top. Walking through the forest to the hut we encountered so many loud monkeys in the trees that it was like we were in the Wizard of Oz. We got some good video footage of them trying to get into the trash bin that Cody might post later.
All in all, it was a great hike and the park was beautiful. I definitely recommend a trip to the gardens if you find yourself in Penang and you want to spend some time with nature.
